Using PODS for Moving

Alternatives to PODS

If you are looking for an alternative to using PODS for your container move, U-Pack is a great option to consider. U-Pack will only allow you to use the container for 3 days at your current location, and then they will pick up the container. They also require that your move is at minimum 150 miles away, so if you are moving locally, they are not the company for you. One thing that is amazing about U-Pack and unheard of in the shipping container industry is that you can guarantee a delivery date. This is a game-changer!

Another alternative to consider is the DIY version done with U-Haul, called U-Box. The great thing about choosing U-Box is that just like working with U-Haul, they don’t charge you for the moving blankets within the container. They also will allow you to keep it at your property for 30 days which gives you flexibility. The downfall of working with U-Box is that it is a box made of plywood, not metal, so you need to take that into consideration. If you are completing a long-distance move, out of state, I would not recommend this as your moving option, but if you are staying local, this is the way to go!

Advice for Using PODS for Moving

If you are using PODS for storage at your home, they offer a variety of sizes. However, if you are using PODS for an interstate move and are crossing state lines, there is only one size POD that can be used, a 6-foot container. If you are in a 3-bedroom home, that size will be just fine, but if you have a bigger home, you will likely need more than one container!
